Disclosing Knowledge from the Sumerian Tablets

Sumer is modern day Iraq, loosely translated Sumer stands for “land of the civilized kings” or “native land”. The Sumerians were highly evolved for their time and are known for starting the first civilization and building the first settlements worthy of being called cities.

But apart from the ability to create cities the discovery of the 5,000 year old tablets with well detailed characters holds very interesting clues to the history of man and also insights into the Sumerian culture and beliefs.

ancient sumeriaThe Sumerian Tablets hold a diversity of information, from religious texts, poetry, bills, rations issued monthly and even the allocation of beer. Like the Egyptians the Sumerians used Hieroglyphs, but the older tablets lacked grammar making it a tough job to translate them.
Similarities in the Sumerian Tablets and the Bible
The Eridu Genesis is from a fragmented tablet excavated in Nippur, its also the earliest record of the Sumerian Creation and flood. The flood is similar to the bibles story of Noah and his Ark, complete with the building of the Ark, the pairs of animals and of course the flood.
noahs ark
Where the tablet picks up, the gods An, Enlil, Enki and Ninhursanga create the black-headed people and create comfortable conditions for the animals to live and procreate. Then kingship descends from heaven and the first cities are founded: Eridu, Bad-tibira, Larsa, Sippar, and Shuruppak.
After a missing section in the tablet, we learn that the gods have decided not to save mankind from an impending flood. Zi-ud-sura, the king and gudug priest, learns of this. In the later Akkadian version, Ea, or Enki in Sumerian, the god of the waters, warns the hero and gives him instructions for the ark. This is missing in the Sumerian fragment, but a mention of Enki taking counsel with himself suggests that this is Enki’s role in the Sumerian version as well.
When the tablet resumes it is describing the flood. A terrible storm rocks the huge boat for seven days and seven nights, then Utu (the Sun god) appears and Zi-ud-sura creates an opening in the boat, prostrates himself, and sacrifices oxen and sheep.
After another break the text resumes: the flood is apparently over, the animals disembark and Zi-ud-sura prostrates himself before An (sky-god) and Enlil (chief of the gods), who give him eternal life and take him to dwell in Dilmun for “preserving the animals and the seed of mankind”.
Taken from the Sumerian creation myth.
Apart from the similarities to the story of Noah and his ark, there seem to be even more similarities between the Sumerian text and the Bible, but I’m going to move on to another interesting revelation by the Sumerian Tablets..
The Creation of Man According to the Sumerian Texts
Here’s a nice video taken from Ancient Aliens, a series on the history channel. Its nice to see a variety of people speaking about creation from the terms of the Sumerian texts. It does touch upon the similarities in the Bible and the Sumerian texts, although it doesn’t dig too deep it gives a good overview and has a couple of interesting views from some prominent researches such as, Erich von Däniken, Giorgio A. Tsoukalos, David Childress and more.
Way Ahead of their Time
sumerian tablet recording the allocation of beer
A Sumerian tablet recording the allocation of beer
How did the Sumerians have such in depth info on such a wide range of topics? The ability to write and build cities. I’m not sure if this is intelligence but the Sumerians even documented the process of making Beer!
Apart from this, I managed to put two things together, during the invasion of Persia by the Muslims the Irani community that never converted to Islam, chose to leave modern day Iran and seek refuge elsewhere. A lot of them came to India, their symbol the Faravahar is identical to the Sumerian God of the sky.
If you browse through the resources below you will find a lot of the Sumerians scriptures have found its way into the Bible, if you yourself are a truth seeker, its very interesting how it got there and is equally important.
For those of you who are interested in a scientific and scholarly argument for ancient extra terrestrial visits to our Earth. Zecharia Sitchin the author of The Earth Chronicles series of books who claims the Sumerian clay tablets reveal that gods from another planet (Nibiru, which orbits our Sun every 3,600 years) arrived on Earth some 450,000 years ago.

Brain Waves and Meditation

“If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.”― Nikola Tesla

When we meditate, we are lowering our consciousness to the point our brain wave patterns are affected, Vibrations from rhythmic sounds have a profound effect on our brain activity. In shamanic traditions, drums have long been used to transport the shaman out of his or her body into other realms of reality through the use of constant rhythmic vibrations.

The Four Brain Wave States

It is no coincidence that 4.5 beats, or cycles, per second corresponds to the trance-like state of theta brain wave activity. In direct correlation, we see similar effects brought on by the constant and rhythmic drone of Tibetan Buddhist chants that transport the monks and even other listeners into realms of blissful meditation.

Beta
  • Alertness
  • Concentration
  • Cognition

You are wide-awake, alert. Your mind is sharp, focused. It makes connections quickly, easily and you're primed to do work that requires your full attention. In the Beta state, neurons fire abundantly, in rapid succession, helping you achieve peak performance. New ideas and solutions to problems flash like lightning into your mind. Beta training is one of the frequencies that biofeedback therapists use to treat Attention Deficit Disorder.

Beta-centered programs help you prepare to take an exam, play sports, give a presentation, analyze and organize information, and other activities where mental alertness and high levels of concentration are key to your success.

Beta waves range between 13-40 HZ. The Beta state is associated with peak concentration, heightened alertness, hand eye coordination and visual acuity. Nobel Prize Winner Sir Francis Crick and other scientists believe that the 40HZ beta frequency used on many Brain Sync tapes may be key to the act of cognition.

Alpha
  • Relaxation
  • Visualization
  • Creativity

When you are truly relaxed, your brain activity slows from the rapid patterns of Beta into the more gentle waves of Alpha. Your awareness expands. Fresh creative energy begins to flow. Fears vanish. You experience a liberating sense of peace and well-being. In biofeedback, Alpha training is most commonly recommended for the treatment of stress.

Alpha-centered programs help you tap your creativity and are excellent for problem solving, finding new ideas and practicing creative visualization. Choose Alpha programs when you want to attain deep levels of relaxation that are so essential to your health and well-being.

Alpha waves range between 7-12 HZ. This is a place of deep relaxation, but not quite meditation. In Alpha, we begin to access the wealth of creativity that lies just below our conscious awareness - it is the gateway, the entry point that leads into deeper states of consciousness. Alpha is also the home of the window frequency known as the Schuman Resonance - the resonant frequency of the earth's electromagnetic field.

Theta
  • Meditation
  • Intuition
  • Memory

Going deeper into relaxation, you enter the elusive and mysterious Theta state where brain activity slows almost to the point of sleep, but not quite. Theta is the brain state where magic happens in the crucible of your own neurological activity. Theta brings forward heightened receptivity, flashes of dreamlike imagery, inspiration, and your long-forgotten memories. Theta can bring you deep states of meditation. A sensation of "floating." And, because it is an expansive state, in Theta, you may feel your mind expand beyond the boundaries of your body.
Theta rests directly on the threshold of your subconscious. In biofeedback, it is most commonly associated with the deepest levels of meditation. Theta also plays an important part in behavior modification programs and has been used in the treatment of drug and alcohol addiction. Finally, Theta is an ideal state for super-learning, re-programming your mind, dream recall, and self-hypnosis.

Theta waves range between 4-7 HZ. Theta is one of the more elusive and extraordinary realms we can explore. It is also known as the twilight state which we normally only experience fleetingly as we rise up out of the depths of delta upon waking, or drifting off to sleep. In Theta, we are in a waking dream, vivid imagery flashes before the mind's eye and we are receptive to information beyond our normal conscious awareness. Theta has also been identified as the gateway to learning and memory. Theta meditation increases creativity, enhances learning, reduces stress and awakens intuition and other extrasensory perception skills.

Delta
  • Detached Awareness
  • Healing
  • Sleeping

Long, slow, undulating. Delta is the slowest of all four brain wave frequencies. Most commonly associated with deep sleep, certain frequencies in the Delta range also trigger the release of Human Growth Hormone so beneficial for healing and regeneration. This is why sleep - deep restorative sleep - the kind that Delta frequencies help induce is so essential to the healing process.

Delta is the brain wave signal of the subconscious, the seat from which intuition arises. That means Delta-based programs are not only an ideal choice for their sleep and deep regeneration potential, but also when you want to access your unconscious activity and help that wellspring of information flow to your conscious mind for clearing and for empowerment. Delta waves range between 0-4 HZ.

The Power of Global Meditation

If we want world peace it is up to us to make it manifest. The whole world is coming to the realisation that everything in the universe is connected. That our thoughts have real physical implications on our lives and the lives of those around us. No matter what Colour, Religion, or Country you are from, we are all Family. The sooner we embrace this Oneness we Will bring peace upon earth.

Psychedelic Vacations on Earth to Inner Space

Sometimes a vacation filled with sun, sea and sand is not enough, you need mind-altering experiences to make it worthwhile. A vacation to enter a new dimension, tread the unknown path and explore the immense power of the human mind and the cosmos. This would be no ordinary holiday, but one to free your mind and expand it.

There are destinations around the world that take you on a journey of the mind, legally of course, and it can be in the form of a ritual, cultural immersion or simply getting high.
I stumbled upon this list of places where the use of substances is legal or decriminalised, as its generally termed, or part of their culture. For all the people who want to open new doors to their perception, let me guide you on a mind-altering trip across the globe. (The laws can change, so please check before you set out on that much-awaited trip, and be aware and alert).
Kava drink in Fiji
Kava is a plant that is consumed by many island communities in Oceania, that includes New Guinea, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Tahiti, Marshall and Solomon islands. In Fiji its an age-old tradition to drink kava, for social and medicinal purpose.
The root is ground into a powder, mixed with cold water and then strained through a cloth or sometimes even a sock to make a pinkish-gray drink. Locals sing folk songs as the drink is prepared, then its poured in a large bowl. Everyone sits in a circle as the cup is passed around, you have to clap and down it in one go.
After a couple of rounds you can feel the effect of the potent drink, your mouth and throat turns numb and slowly your body tends to feel relaxed. With Kava you can have lucid dreams, and it is also known to cure insomnia, relieve stress and anxiety. The ceremony can last up to 5 to 6 hours, where drinking 2 to 3 bowls in half an hour is not unusual.
Even the late Pope John Paul II had it on his visit to Fiji, so go ahead have a cup of the Pacific elixir. Its always best to experience it with a local community instead of a hotel, which won’t be that potent. Recently Alcohol bars were banned on the islands as it led to fights, violence and other crimes and in place Kava bars were set up, bringing in a more peaceful island and community.
Pot in Amsterdam
Amsterdam is known for its open culture towards marijuana and its notorious coffee shops, where the some of the finest greens are available. It would be the only European country where marijuana is legal in limited quantities. Club that with some great music and you are on your trip to space.
Ironically, tobacco smoking was banned in 2008, a good move, especially since smoking the herb seems to fight cancer, rather than cause it.
Magic mushrooms in the British Virgin Islands
Magic mushrooms in British Virgin IslandsLocated in the Caribbean, British Virgin Islands is one of the places where the magic mushrooms grow naturally, and it is legal to possess and consume these psilocybin mushrooms, however, their sale is illegal. Does that means you need to either barter or plain old share them?
If you have heard of shrooms but don’t know what they do, then here you go. These mushrooms grow in the wild and as many psychedelics how good your trip is depends on many factors, your state of mind, atmosphere, people, music and how much you have consumed. It generally leads to enhanced visual perception, hallucination, colors seem more brighter and clearer, euphoric and sense of time is distorted almost sums up the experience.
Tortola is the main island where shrooms can be consumed freely. Bomba’s Surf Shack on the beach in Cappoon’s Bay where mushroom tea is served instead of straight shrooms. That’s also where the Full Moon psychedelic music parties take place, so you can look deep in and get far out on the sandy beaches of Tortola.
Coca Leaves in Bolivia
Bolivian woman chewing coca leafBolivia, the third largest producer of the coca plant, they follow the centuries old traditions of using the coca leaf for religious, medicinal and cultural purpose. Coca leaves are legal and not the processed cocaine or crack cocaine.
So virtually every culture has its indigenous and preferred mind-altering substances, which are used for social events, religious ceremonies, etc. Still, they are tagged as illegal in many places even with a rich cultural background with plants.
Coca leaf is held in the side of the cheek, that gives a mild high, a sense of well-being and a buzz which can last all afternoon. It also helps to relieve altitude sickness, stave off hunger and cold. There are several coca carts found on the street in the capital city of La Paz, where you can buy leaves in bulk.
The Moroccan Hash
Moroccan slate hash or kifThe Moroccan hash or locally known as ‘kif’ is of excellent quality, delicious, very inexpensive and concentrated. Although its illegal, there are plenty of people smoking, and if you find a local to smoke with, then you can also be assured of a decent spliff. Since it is Morocco’s biggest foreign currency earner after tourism, it has been decriminalized.
The best part is you don’t have to go looking for hash, there are plenty of young men offering hashish to you on the streets. Towns like Chefchaouen, close to Tangier, are a haven for stoned backpackers. So it’s a mellow town with a good atmosphere and one of the safest places in Morocco for visitors. The different variety of hash aka kif available here is astounding! Besides the medieval landscape of Morocco is appealing, an interesting add on to the potent kif.
These are five places you can visit for a mind altering journey, there are more intense trips coming up in the continuation of this article!

"Stop GMOS": Russian Scientists Urge 10 Year Ban On Genetically Modified Products.

Russian scientists are calling for a 10-year moratorium on GMOs to thoroughly study their influence on human health, stressing that such examinations are vital.

“It is necessary to ban GMO, to impose moratorium [on it] for 10 years. While GMO will be prohibited, we can plan experiments, tests, or maybe even new methods of research could be developed,” vice president of Russia’s National Association for Genetic Safety, Irina Ermakova, told Interfax news agency.

According to her, there have not been enough sufficient studies on GMO influence on human health to allow for a wide introduction of genetically modified food on the market.

However, scientists say that most studies prove that such food comes along with dangerous side effects.

“It has been proved that not only in Russia, but also in many other countries in the world, GMO is dangerous. Methods of obtaining the GMO are not perfect, therefore, at this stage, all GMOs are dangerous,” Ermakova said.

She went on to explain that one of the techniques uses tumor-causing soil bacteria.

“Consumption and use of GMOs obtained in such way can lead to tumors, cancers and obesity among animals,” Ermakova said.

She added that doctors have seen a surge of diabetes and cancer in regions where residents have consumed larger amounts of GMO-containing food.

“Biotechnologies certainly should be developed, but GMO should be stopped. [We] should stop it from spreading,” Ermakova added.

In September, Russia endorsed the Rules for the State Registration of GMO and GMO-containing Products. The law enforces compulsory registration of all products containing GM components.

Also in September, Russian authorities temporarily suspended the import and sale of Monsanto’s genetically modified corn after a French study suggested it may be linked to cancer. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev ordered regulatory agencies to consider a possible ban on all GMO imports into Russia.

10 Ways to Raise Your Vibrations

All your thoughts and feelings are energy, and energy is vibration. Learn to Raise those Vibrations and watch your life change dramatically.

1. Find something beautiful and appreciate it. Beauty is all around us, from the morning dew to the evening stars and everything in between. Most go through life not noticing all the beautiful things that are around them, and yes it’s every where, so take the time to notice them, and appreciate them when you see it. Whether it’s the scent of a flower or the way rain ripples in puddles of water, appreciate the beauty life has to offer.
2. Make a list of all that you are grateful for. Making a gratitude list shifts your vibrations from focusing on what you do not have to what is already abundant in your life. There is more to be grateful for than you could possibly imagine. You can start with “I’m Alive!” and expand from there. Gratitude is the Attitude.
3. Meditate. Sit in a comfortable position, close your eyes and breath in and out. Too often we rush through our days with a scattered brain leaving us in a state of anxiety and stress, Meditation helps to calm your spirit down and put you in a peaceful state of mind. 10 Minuets of meditation a day can change your life forever.

4. Do something for someone else. Giving to someone else shifts your thinking from “I don’t have enough, to I have more than enough to give to others.” Abundance is a high vibration.
5. Stop complaining and gossiping. Complaining and Gossip puts you in a very low vibration. Ask yourself “Are the things you are talking about bringing you more of what you want?” if not then, Stop complaining, and start finding ways to rejoice.
6. Move. Exercise. Get active. Vibration requires movement, the more you move the better your vibrations move. So Get Active! Dance! The happier you feel, the more you will draw happy experiences to yourself because you are operating at a different frequency.
7. Realize that you have more control over your life than you thought. You are not a victim to circumstance, past, family upbringing, trauma, or anything else. You can change your life in an instant. Just realize this. In many wisdom traditions this is called “total responsibility.” No one is responsible for how you feel right now but you. It isn’t a curse. It’s a blessing because it gives you your power back.
8. Breathe. Just sit and try to make your breath longer, fuller, and more relaxed. It has a direct affect on your nervous system and helps to calm you down. A calm vibration is a high vibration.
9. Do Something You’re Afraid Of Fear holds us back from being in a state of love and happiness, and facing those fears opens you up to a greater world of possibilities. Fear of Heights? Go skydiving. Scared of public speaking, say a poem at an open mic. You’ll begin to realize your fear was worse then the actual problem, and a sense of relief will wash over you.
10. Have a Meaningful Conversation with a Friend Rather than gossip or complaining, talk about you ideas. What do you have planned for yourself? what do you think is the nature of reality? Are we spiritual beings having a human experience? Talking about these things with someone helps to raise both your vibrations by thinking big. If you don’t have someone to talk to about these kinds of things with, there’s a community of higher minded individuals right here.

The 8 Most Ridiculously Badass Protesters Ever Photographed

#8. Shield Maiden

West Bank Palestinian woman stands up to IDF
This picture was taken at the Amona outpost, West Bank, when armed-to-the-teeth riot police raided the unarmed shanty-town to evict the settlers. There are about twenty cops on the other side of that shield, all of them rushing downhill at full-tilt toward one elderly Jewish woman who looks like she just dropped a casserole dish mid-wash when she realized she was late to the mid-afternoon riot.
Twenty riot police on full charge, against one old Jewish woman, and
She.
Is.
Holding.
She looks like she’d be denied a part in a LifeAlert commercial on the grounds of frailty, and here she is Gandalfing the holy shit out of two dozen riot cops.
Two things had to have happened after this photo: One, every single one of those cops turned around, went home, called their mothers and apologized for every cross word they’d ever said. And two: One very old Jewish lady picked herself up, dusted off her apron, walked calmly back to her home, closed the door, took a deep breath, hurled the stove through the wall to vent the excess energy, and then quietly finished scrubbing up.

#7. Gas Mask Guy

Protester with gas mask throwing back tear gas
No, this isn’t a screenshot of Fallout 4: New Athens; this was taken during the protests in Greece after their economy collapsed back in spring of 2010. When their government agreed to severe austerity measures that cut wages and benefits to public servants, and raised taxes on the rest of the citizens, but left the higher-ups largely untouched, the protests quickly turned into full-blown riots. Everything about this particular protester — from the fact that he so accepted being tear-gassed that he brought his own mask, to his battle-corduroys, to his plain red flag apparently proclaiming his loyalty to berserker blood rage — testifies that he has simply run out of fucks to give. And he didn’t have all that many to begin with.

#6. Bee Man

Protester South Korean bee farmer
It’s one thing to go to a protest, with the screaming, and the tension, and the ever present threat of violence — it’s another thing to do all that while absolutely covered in bees. This is Ahn Sang-gyu, a South Korean bee farmer in a 2006 protest about a territorial dispute between Japan and Korea. He says he chose to cover himself with “187,000 bees to represent the 187,000 square meter dimensions of the islets” in contention, but that sounds like pretty shaky reasoning. It’s far more likely a matter of familiarity bias: When you have absolute dominion over the insect kingdom, you tend to think every problem is just a matter of finding the right volume of bees to throw at it.

#5. The Kickbomber

Protester fire bombing a police truck
Though it looks like he’s caught in the middle of a 12 hit combo — just after landing the fireball but right before the flying dragon kick — this is actually a man in the midst of firebombing an empty policetruck during the anti-Mubarak riots in Egypt. Sure, plenty of destruction happens in a riot, and sure, the riot truck was empty to start with, but he’s still dead-sprinting at an armored tank in what appear to be loafers; the fact that he can even get airborne with balls that dense is clear evidence of the Egyptian Basketball Team’s terrifying efficiency.
Mubarak ran the gamut of cartoonish evil, from raising prices on food while cutting worker’s wages, to running a state of fear and police brutality, but the final nail in his regime’s coffin was shutting off the internet. In the words of Pastor Martin Niemoller: “First they came for the communists, and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a communist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a Jew. Then they came for the internet, so I kick-bombed the shit out of a riot truck.”

#4. Flaming Scarf Guy

Image found by the awesome Strigoi
Image found by the awesome Strigoi
Another protester in the anti-Mubarak riots, Flaming Scarf Guy looks like he walked straight out of an anime (that he just firebombed). The context is unclear even in the original Al Jazeera photo, so we can’t say if he caused that explosion, or if he just sort of appears out of the ether whenever there is an explosion. We’re going to assume a terrifying combination of the two, like a napalm-based variant of the Bloody Mary legend.
Plenty of people see this picture and make jokes about that old action hero cliche: Cool guys don’t look at explosions, they just turn and walk away. But that’s not what’s happening here, exactly. There’s no indication that he’s walking away from anything; he’s entirely content where he is. He felt the hot breath of that multi-story fireball on his neck, and decided that a good precautionary measure for that kind of danger was to put a scarf on. If he casually strolls away from anything, it will be no less than the heat death of the sun.

#3. Surf Tha Police

Protester surfing the police
You can fight the riot cops. You can scream at them, spit in their faces, accuse them of supporting fascism, and question their morals, their motives, and the integrity of their mother’s vagina. Or you can give a giggling, psychotic finger to logic and reason, and opt instead to just pull a Dukes of Hazzard on those bastards. Hey, it makes sense: Those shields are like makeshift ramps, he probably got some sweet air.
This is yet a third Egyptian protester, and this image completes the most epic trilogy since Lord of the Rings. Yes, pictures are all a matter of timing, and yes, there was probably an unfortunate aftermath immediately after this, and no, it probably didn’t do much to stop the police in the grand scheme of things. But for just this one single moment in time, this is a man dive-tackling an entire fucking precinct worth of riot cops and he is unquestionably succeeding.

#2. Dairy Rioter

Protester milk cow
This dairy farmer was protesting the EU headquarters in Brussels over rapidly falling milk prices. And that’s…probably the least exciting protest that’s ever been staged, wrestling away the #1 spot from long-standing champ: The “mail peanuts to executives to keep Jericho on the air” campaign. But this man did not earn his spot on a list populated with iconic badasses hurling grenades and roaring obscenities in the face of authority because of what he’s doing here. He’s on this list for what he did right before this, which was to take a look at all his friends as they geared up for the protest — strapping on their gas masks, pocketing their eye wash, testing their tasers, and hefting their clubs – before solemnly reaching down and grabbing the one and only weapon he needed. Then he went to a riot armed with a tit.

#1. Water Cannon Man

Protester water canon man
You knew he was coming.
You knew because he’s an internet staple by now. You knew because everything about him — from his Superman-stance, to his contemptuous sneer, to his kickin’ Cable-knit sweater ensemble — is the very embodiment of defiance. But mostly you knew he was coming because you can’t even show pictures of injustice without Water Cannon Man mysteriously popping out of the ground to stare them down until they burst into flame. This image was taken in South Korea during the APEC protests in 2005, when thousands of union workers tried to storm a meeting of the Pacific Rim leaders to protest a bill that opened their rice markets to foreign powers. And before you go writing this man off as an isolated event — some sort of temporary avatar of badass on Earth, acting alone and against all odds like the Korean John McClane — you should probably watch the rest of the video:
If you don’t have enough patience for the build-up, just skip ahead to the payoff at 2:06, when the farmers all band together, hurl their grapples into the gargantuan steel shipping containers that the police are hiding behind, and then pull them to the ground with their bare hands before throwing them into the god damn sea. You can even see what looks like a dry Water Cannon Man standing off to the side at 1:53. Which means that he either hadn’t made his iconic stand yet, or far more likely, that his clothes were simply dried by the residual heat emanating outward from him when he Optic Blasted injustice in the dick.
Protester Korean
You can buy Robert’s book, Everything is Going to Kill Everybody: The Terrifyingly Real Ways the World Wants You Dead, or follow him on Twitter and Facebook or you can join him and FIGHT THE POWERS THAT BE! He’ll uh…he’ll be in the back. Right behind you. Totally. All the way.

6 Herbs to Help Boost Your Brain Power

If you want to join the ranks of the smartest people alive today, you might be able to get a little edge from taking some natural brain power-boosting herbs. Only .05% of people have recorded IQs of over 140. If you want to have the brilliance of Stephen Hawking or the intellectual gusto of Kim Ung-Yong who was auditing college courses at the ripe old age of 4, you can try these 6 plants to get those brain cells charged up and ready to fire:

1. & 2. PERIWINKLE & GINSENG
Both of these herbs improve cognitive function. They have both been studied by researchers at the University of Northumbria in Tyne, England, and can be used together to boost cognitive abilities. Ginseng is great as an alternative to synthetic medications (like those prescribed for ADHD or ADD). It is also known to possess compounds that help protect us from radiation.

3. VINCRISTINE

Extracted from Periwinkle as a natural constituent, vincristine is one of the most powerful anticancer drugs in the world. In fact, it has significantly increased the survival rate for acute childhood leukemia; however, periwinkle’s vincsristine also offers huge positive neuro-cognitive effects, and even reduces brain tumors.

4. GOTU KOLA

While this herb is said to boost brain power in general, gotu kola is also considered to be an adaptogen, which means it lowers stress. Stress has an incredibly abhorrent affect on our brain’s ability to process information and to see things clearly –acting rapidly via catecholamines and more slowly via glucocorticoids. Catecholamine actions involve beta adrenergic receptors and also availability of glucose, whereas glucocorticoids biphasically modulate synaptic plasticity over hours and also produce longer-term changes in dendritic structure that last for weeks – dumbing us down, essentially, with every shallow breath and wrinkled eye-brow. Gotu Kola can help to minimize this reaction and

5. SMELLING ROSEMARY

A team of scientists from the University of Northumbria, UK, has discovered that one of the active essential oils which gives rosemary its favorable scent improves speed and accuracy when performing certain mental tasks. Thanks to 8-cineole, the main chemical constituent in the plant, we can score higher on tests and just function better mentally on a daily basis from smelling the herb. In fact, the higher the levels of 8-cineole in the Rosemary bush, the higher the test scores as evidenced in the journal Therapeutic Advances in Psychopharmacology. Needless to say, boosting the brain is just one of many rosemary benefits.

6. GINKGO BILOBA

This herb actually helps to regenerate brain cells. While the research isn’t conclusive, numerous studies have found this herb to be beneficial for improving memory and adding intellectual zeal. If you are taking blood thinning medications; however, you should check with your doctor before ingesting since the herb can cause brain bleeding if used in connection with blood thinners. Otherwise, the herb is perfectly safe and has been used for millennia. It is at least 250 million years old. Now, that’s a smart tree!
(Yes, we know simply consuming these herbs won’t literally make you a genius).

Uruguay First Country to Legalize Marijuana

In a historic turn of events, Uruguay becomes the first country to legalize the growing, sale and smoking of marijuana. This should be a good example for other countries to take cue from and reform the oppressive laws surrounding the sacred herb, Cannabis. A government sponsored bill approved by 16-13 votes in the Senate provides for regulation of the cultivation, distribution and consumption of Cannabis and is aimed at wresting the business from criminals in the small South American nation. Registered Cannabis users over the age of 18 will be able to buy a maximum of 40 grams (1.4 ounces) each month from licensed pharmacies in Uruguay. A Government database shall monitor their monthly purchases.

The new law is supposed to be implemented by April 2014 allowing Uruguayans to grow six Cannabis plants in their homes a year, or as much as 480 grams (about 17 ounces), and form smoking clubs of 15 to 45 members that can grow up to 99 plants per year.

"We begin a new experience in April. It involves a big cultural change that focuses on public health and the fight against drug trafficking," Uruguay's first lady, Senator Lucía Topolansky, told Reuters.

The states of Colorado and Washington in America legalized the recreational use of Marijuana recently after people voted in favor of the bill. Portugal decriminalized the possession of drugs for personal use (limited quantities for personal use for 10 days is non punishable) back in 2001 which has helped control the drug problem in a big way. In Spain, small scale cultivation of cannabis plants for personal use is tolerated by the authorities and there are many grow shops across that country selling their products both physically and online which has helped boost their economy.

Behemoths of the Universe: Hypergiant Stars

We’ve told you about all about VY Canis Majoris, the most sizable star in the known universe. Lurking in the cosmos some 4,900 light-years from earth (about 28.8 quadrillion miles from our home), Canis Majoris is a mammoth without compare. If this star were in the center of our solar system, it would extend far beyond the orbit of Saturn (so let’s be glad that it’s a few quadrillion miles away).

To give you some hard figures, the circumference of our Sun is approximate 2.7 million miles (4.3 million km), while Canis Majoris is approximately 1.9 billion miles (3 billion km). This means that, when circling around the sun, light clocks in at about 14.58 seconds. However, it takes almost 8 hours for photons to travel around Canis Majoris.

Plan on circumnavigating this beast yourself?

Maybe think again. Of course, it would take generations to reach this star. But even if you were magically transported to Canis Majoris, a passenger airplane traveling along the surface at an average cruising speed of 559 mph (900km/h) would take over 1,100 years to complete one circuit. Which means that, if you started your trip around this star on the day that the Holy Roman Empire was founded (about 962 CE), you would have just finished your journey.

A similar trip around our own Sun would only take you 7 months (but you’d probably die from eating the horrid airplane food).

Still not impressed? The amount of energy our Sun emits in a year is equal to what this hypergiant releases in the matter of seconds. But Canis Majoris isn’t the only title weight champ in our galactic neighborhood…although it might be the largest, it isn’t the heaviest.

Previously, the Pistol Star was the heaviest known stellar object. Measuring in at nearly 150 solar masses, and spanning some 4 light-years, the largest shell of expelled gas from the Pistol star is so big that it could stretch from our Sun to the tips of the next nearest star (Proxima Centaur, which is some 4.2 light-years away).

But with a mass that was once 320 times greater than the Sun’s, R136a1 makes the Pistol look like a tiny speck.

Discovered early in July of 2010, R136a1 is the most massive known star in our corner of the universe; it also has the highest luminosity. Currently, the star measures nearly 265 solar masses. But when it was born (roughly one million years ago), the star weighed as much as 320 times as much as the Sun. However, heavy stars rapidly lose mass by converting it into energy. R136a1 has already lost 20 per cent of its mass during its short life. The Sun, by comparison, has been burning for some 4.57 billion years, and has converted only 0.03 per cent of its mass into energy.

In cosmic terms, R136a1 is still a baby. But, sadly, its life is already drawing to a close. Scientists estimate that stars of this size live only 3 million years. For humans, such a life would be legendary beyond measure…but for stellar hypergiants like R136a1, it’s barely a blip.
