10 Amazing Inventions From Nikola Tesla That Changed The World

Tuesday, 22 July 2014

Perhaps one of Tesla’s most famous inventions deals directly with energy, something that is the talk of many social and political conversations and something that could be free to everyone if we used Nikola Tesla’s invention. Over the years, as more and more people begin to recognize the game being played in our society, Nikola Tesla and his story has been becoming more and more popular. This is natural as the increase in people educating themselves outside of the education system leads them to amazing bits of information that otherwise stay hidden. A perfect example are the inventions below which I came across when reading an article on Activist Post about some amazing inventions from Tesla. All of these inventions do and could make a huge impact on our lives.

RADIO

Although Guglielmo Marconi was initially credited with the invention, and most believe him to be the inventor of radio even today, the Supreme Court overturned Marconi’s patent in 1943, when it was proven that Tesla invented the radio years previous to Marconi. Tesla demonstrated that radio signals are just another frequency that require a transmitter and receiver. During a presentation before the National Electric Light Association, Tesla displayed this technology. Although Tesla applied for two patents US 645576, and US 649621 in 1897, by 1904, The U.S. Patent Office reversed its decision, awarding Marconi a patent for the invention of radio. Many believe this coule have had something to do with the fact that Marconi’s financial backers in the States were Thomas Edison and Andrew Carnegie. These men could influence the patent decision. This also allowed the U.S. government (among others) to avoid having to pay the royalties that were being claimed by Tesla.

ALTERNATING CURRENT

This is where it all began, and what ultimately caused such a stir at the 1893 World’s Expo in Chicago. A war was leveled ever-after between the vision of Edison and the vision of Tesla for how electricity would be produced and distributed. The division can be summarized as one of cost and safety: The DC current that Edison (backed by General Electric) had been working on was costly over long distances, and produced dangerous sparking from the required converter (called a commutator). Regardless, Edison and his backers utilized the general “dangers” of electric current to instill fear in Tesla’s alternative: Alternating Current. As proof, Edison sometimes electrocuted animals at demonstrations.

Consequently, Edison gave the world the electric chair, while simultaneously maligning Tesla’s attempt to offer safety at a lower cost. Tesla responded by demonstrating that AC was perfectly safe by famously shooting current through his own body to produce light. This Edison-Tesla (GE-Westinghouse) feud in 1893 was the culmination of over a decade of shady business deals, stolen ideas, and patent suppression that Edison and his moneyed interests wielded over Tesla’s inventions. Yet, despite it all, it is Tesla’s system that provides power generation and distribution to North America in our modern era.

ELECTRIC MOTOR

Tesla’s invention of the electric motor has finally been popularized by a car brand using his name. While the technical specifications are beyond the scope of this summary, suffice to say that Tesla’s invention of a motor with rotating magnetic fields could have freed mankind much sooner from the stranglehold of Big Oil. However, his invention in 1930 succumbed to the economic crisis and the world war that followed. Nevertheless, this invention has fundamentally changed the landscape of what we now take for granted: industrial fans, household appliances, water pumps, machine tools, power tools, disk drives, electric wristwatches and compressors.

ROBOTICS

Tesla’s overly enhanced scientific mind led him to the idea that all living beings are merely driven by external impulses. He stated: “I have by every thought and act of mine, demonstrated, and does so daily, to my absolute satisfaction that I am an automaton endowed with power of movement, which merely responds to external stimuli.” Thus, the concept of the robot was born. However, an element of the human remained present, as Tesla asserted that these human replicas should have limitations — namely growth and propagation. Nevertheless, Tesla unabashedly embraced all of what intelligence could produce. His visions for a future filled with intelligent cars, robotic human companions, and the use of sensors, and autonomous systems are detailed in a must-read entry in the Serbian Journal of Electrical Engineering, 2006 (PDF).

X-RAYS

Electromagnetic and ionizing radiation was heavily researched in the late 1800s, but Tesla researched the entire gamut. Everything from a precursor to Kirlian photography, which has the ability to document life force, to what we now use in medical diagnostics, this was a transformative invention of which Tesla played a central role. X-rays, like so many of Tesla’s contributions, stemmed from his belief that everything we need to understand the universe is virtually around us at all times, but we need to use our minds to develop real-world devices to augment our innate perception of existence.

LASER

Tesla’s invention of the laser may be one of the best examples of the good and evil bound up together within the mind of man. Lasers have transformed surgical applications in an undeniably beneficial way, and they have given rise to much of our current digital media. However, with this leap in innovation we have also crossed into the land of science fiction. From Reagan’s “Star Wars” laser defense system to today’s Orwellian “non-lethal” weapons’ arsenal, which includes laser rifles and directed energy “death rays,” there is great potential for development in both directions.

LIGHT

Of course he didn’t invent light itself, but he did invent how light can be harnessed and distributed. Tesla developed and used florescent bulbs in his lab some 40 years before industry “invented” them. At the World’s Fair, Tesla took glass tubes and bent them into famous scientists’ names, in effect creating the first neon signs. However, it is his Tesla Coil that might be the most impressive, and controversial. The Tesla Coil is certainly something that big industry would have liked to suppress: the concept that the Earth itself is a magnet that can generate electricity (electromagnetism) utilizing frequencies as a transmitter. All that is needed on the other end is the receiver — much like a radio.

REMOTE CONTROL

This invention was a natural outcropping of radio. Patent No.613809 was the first remote controlled model boat, demonstrated in 1898. Utilizing several large batteries; radio signals controlled switches, which then energized the boat’s propeller, rudder, and scaled-down running lights. While this exact technology was not widely used for some time, we now can see the power that was appropriated by the military in its pursuit of remote controlled war. Radio controlled tanks were introduced by the Germans in WWII, and developments in this realm have since slid quickly away from the direction of human freedom.

WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS AND LIMITLESS FREE ENERGY

These two are inextricably linked, as they were the last straw for the power elite — what good is energy if it can’t be metered and controlled? Free? Never. J.P. Morgan backed Tesla with $150,000 to build a tower that would use the natural frequencies of our universe to transmit data, including a wide range of information communicated through images, voice messages, and text. This represented the world’s first wireless communications, but it also meant that aside from the cost of the tower itself, the universe was filled with free energy that could be utilized to form a world wide web connecting all people in all places, as well as allow people to harness the free energy around them. Essentially, the 0′s and 1′s of the universe are embedded in the fabric of existence for each of us to access as needed. Nikola Tesla was dedicated to empowering the individual to receive and transmit this data virtually free of charge. But we know the ending to that story . . . until now?

Tesla had perhaps thousands of other ideas and inventions that remain unreleased. A look at his hundreds of patents shows a glimpse of the scope he intended to offer. If you feel that the additional technical and scientific research of Nikola Tesla should be revealed for public scrutiny and discussion, instead of suppressed by big industry and even our supposed institutions of higher education, join the world’s call to tell power brokers everywhere that we are ready to Occupy Energy and learn about what our universe really has to offer.

The release of Nikola Tesla’s technical and scientific research — specifically his research into harnessing electricity from the ionosphere at a facility called Wardenclyffe — is a necessary step toward true freedom of information. Please add your voice by sharing this information with as many people as possible.

For additional information about the demand for release, or to use as a template to form your own demand, please visit: http://releaseteslasresearch.weebly.com/

As they state:

Tell your friends, bring it up and discuss it at your next general assembly, do whatever you can to get the word out, organize locally to make a stand for the release of Nikola Tesla’s research…. America is tired of corrupt corporate greed, supported by The American government, holding us back in a stagnant society in the name of profit . . . The Energy Crisis is a lie.

This Awesome Invention Just Took Camping To The Next Level.

Camping isn’t always as fun as you think it’ll be. Sometimes the ground is too hard, there are too many bugs, and if it rains well just forget about it. Sensing a need, UK inventor Alex Shirley-Smith found a creative way to solve these problems and take camping to a whole new level (literally). The result? A portable treehouse that’s a cross between a tent and a hammock.

Shirley-Smith originally came up with the idea that would become the Tentsile system back in 2010. After an early concept of his portable treehouse went viral, Shirley-Smith and his team got down to some serious work. Tentsile released their first production model The Stingray late last year, and it still has a three week waiting list for new orders.

Here is a video of a cool hammock with a similar design.
TO SET IT UP YOU JUST ATTACH THE TENTSILE SYSTEM TO ANY THREE SUPPORT POINTS, VERY SIMILAR TO HANGING A HAMMOCK.

Colossal
SLEEPING UP OFF THE GROUND KEEPS YOU AWAY FROM ALL THE CREEPY CRAWLY TENT INVADERS.

Colossal
TENTSILE’S FLAGSHIP PRODUCT, THE STINGRAY TREE TENT, HAS ROOM FOR THREE PEOPLE INSIDE WITH A WATERPROOF COVERING ON THE OUTSIDE TO PROTECT AGAINST RAIN AND BUGS.

Colossal
YOU CAN EVEN ATTACH A ROPE LADDER! NO WONDER THEY’RE CALLING IT A PORTABLE TREEHOUSE.

Colossal
THAT VIEW. JUST WOW.

Colossal
LOOKS LIKE A COZY PLACE TO BE AT NIGHT IN THE WILDERNESS.

Colossal
ACCORDING TO THE TENTSILE WEBSITE, THEY’RE ARE CURRENTLY DEALING WITH “UNPRECEDENTED” DEMAND FOR THEIR PRODUCTS. WHICH MEANS THAT THERE’S AT LEAST A THREE WEEK WAIT PURCHASING YOUR OWN PORTABLE TREE HOUSE.

Colossal

So I guess it’s time to start planning your treehouse camping adventure. Click below and share this one with your friends.

Could You Handle Being In A Cage This Small For 4 Minutes? How About 4 Years?

uml32.jpg

This may seem like a silly challenge (and the set up is pretty funny actually), but the underlying message is clear: Should a living thing be treated this way?

We took to the street to the great, great challenge to see how well people can hold up under the pressure. Do you think our heroes have what it takes to meet the physical demands? Let's find out.

It's calling your name. You can do it! Oh it looks pretty enticing. You just want to get into that crate. I'm just going to need you to do a couple exercises for me, okay?

Oh, my God!

All nice and snug.

You can do it [inaudible] right.

I need you to work with me and turn around.

I'm not done ...

Let's raise our hands up to the sky ... bring them down, bend right over, touch your toes.

I think I heard a grunt.

[inaudible] come on.

Do the Hokey-Pokey . . .

I can't.

. . . that's what it's all about.

That's what she said.

Head shoulders knees and toes, knees and toes. Okay?

How about now, are you ready to get out of that thing?

I'm ready to get out!

You're ready?

This is the reason that we're down here. Trying to raise awareness of what it is that these pigs have to live through.

It's awful.

They're very smart, intelligent animals.

Smart or not, nothing deserves that.

80% of breeding pigs in the United States' pork industry keeps them locked in crates, unable to turn around. We are trying to do something. We think it's cruel. You have the opportunity to say something to the pork industry. What is it that you would say?

I think they need to come down and do the challenge.

They don't deserve to be in those cages at all, actually.

[inaudible] give them a lot more room.

It needs to end.

It sucks.

This is not a way to live.

Ditch those crates! Ditch these crates!

Tell the pork industry to stop using these gestation crates.

Ditch these crates!

No animal deserves to live like this.

Bolivia Gives Legal Rights To The Earth

Law of Mother Earth sees Bolivia pilot new social and economic model based on protection of and respect for nature.

Bolivia is to become the first country in the world to give nature comprehensive legal rights in an effort to halt climate change and the exploitation of the natural world, and to improve quality of life for the Bolivian people.

Developed by grassroots social groups and agreed by politicians, the Law of Mother Earth recognises the rights of all living things, giving the natural world equal status to human beings.

Once fully approved, the legislation will provide the Earth with rights to: life and regeneration; biodiversity and freedom from genetic modification; pure water; clean air; naturally balanced systems; restoration from the effects of human activity; and freedom from contamination.

The legislation is based on broader principles of living in harmony with the Earth and prioritizing the“collective good.” At its heart is an understanding that the Earth is sacred, which arises from the indigenous Andean worldview of ‘Pachamama’ (meaning Mother Earth) as a living being. An initial act outlining the rights – which was passed by Bolivia’s national congress in December 2010 and paves the way for the full legislation – defines Mother Earth as a dynamic and “indivisible community of all living systems and living organisms, interrelated, interdependent and complementary, which share a common destiny.”

Bolivia’s government will be legally bound to prioritise the wellbeing of its citizens and the natural world by developing policies that promote sustainability and control industry. The economy must operate within the limits of nature and the country is to work towards energy and food sovereignty while adopting renewable energy technologies and increasing energy efficiency.Preventing climate change is a key objective of the law, which includes protecting the lives of future generations. The government is requesting that rich countries help Bolivia adapt to the effects of climate change in recognition of the environmental debt they owe for their high carbon emissions. Bolivia is “particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change,” according to an Oxfam report in 2009, with increasing drought, melting glaciers and flooding.

On the international stage, the government will have a legal duty to promote the uptake of rights for Mother Earth, while also advocating peace and the elimination of all nuclear, chemical and biological weapons. Following a change in Bolivia’s constitution in 2009, the law is part of a complete overhaul of the legal system. It represents a shift away from the western development model to a more holistic vision, based on the indigenous concept of Vivir Bien (to live well).

The proposal for the law states: “Living Well means adopting forms of consumption, behaviour and and conduct that are not degrading to nature. It requires an ethical and spiritual relationship with life. Living Well proposes the complete fulfilment of life and collective happiness.”

Unity Pact, an umbrella group for five Bolivian social movements, prepared the draft law. They represent over 3m people and all of the country’s 36 indigenous groups, the majority of whom are smallscale farmers with many still living on their ancestral lands. The bill protects their livelihoods and diverse cultures from the impacts of industry.

Undarico Pinto, a leader of the social movement Confederación Sindical Única de Trabajadores Campesinos de Bolivia, said: “It will make industry more transparent. It will allow people to regulate industry at national, regional and local levels.” Signifying a fundamental shift away from exploitation of nature, the draft law referrers to mineral resources as “blessings” and states that Mother Earth, “is sacred, fertile and the source of life that feeds and cares for all living beings in her womb. She is in permanent balance, harmony and communication with the cosmos.”

A Ministry of Mother Earth is to be established to promote the new rights and ensure they are complied with. But with its economy currently dependent on exports of natural resources, earning nearly a third of its foreign currency – around £300m a year – from mining companies, Bolivia will need to balance its new obligations against the demands of industry.
BOLIVIA RAIN FOREST

The full law is expected to pass within the next few months and is unlikely to face any significant opposition because the ruling party, the Movement Towards Socialism, has a considerable majority in parliament. Its leader, President Evo Morales, voiced a commitment to the initiative at the World People’s Conference on Climate change, held in Bolivia in April 2010.

The Law of Mother Earth includes the following:

The right to maintain the integrity of life and natural processes.

The right to not have cellular structure modified or genetically altered.

The right to continue vital cycles and processes free from human alteration.

The right to pure water.

The right to clean air.

The right to balance, to be at equilibrium.

The right to be free of toxic and radioactive pollution.

The right to not be affected by mega-infrastructure and development projects that affect the balance of ecosystems and the local inhabitant communities

The law also promotes “harmony” and “peace” and “the elimination of all nuclear, chemical, biological”weapons.

This Amazing Solar City Produces 4 Times the Energy it Consumes

Although net-zero projects have been creating a lot of buzz lately in the field of green building, the Sonnenschiff solar city in Freiburg, Germany is very much net positive. The self-sustaining city accomplishes this feat through smart solar design and lots and lots of photovoltaic panels pointed in the right direction. It seems like a simple strategy — but designers often incorporate solar installations as an afterthought, or worse, as a label.

The Solar Settlement in Freiburg Schlierberg is the answer to three questions. What is ecological, solar and energy technically feasible? What is aesthetically pleasing and desirable in urban development? And what is economically realistic? The questions were answered, and the innovativeness of the design idea was immediately recognized. The settlement became a project of the EXPO 2000. The Solar Settlement is an ensemble of bright color of terraced houses and one commercial building, the Sun Ship. At 11,000 m2, nine penthouses distribute 59 houses, of which the roof of the Sun Ship. The individual houses have 75-167 m2, all the houses together over 7,850 m2 of living space. All designed as energy-plus houses, they produce more energy than they consume – and the extra income far outweigh the low labor costs. All the houses are built using wood and with consistently healthy building materials, all have a large roof photovoltaic modules. The color scheme was designed by Berlin artist Erich Wiesner. The site remains car-free – thanks to a car park under the sun ship and a well-organized car-sharing system.

The project started out as a vision for an entire community — the medium-density project balances size, accessibility, green space, and solar exposure. In all, 52 homes make up a neighborhood anchored to Sonnenschiff, a mixed-use residential and commercial building that emphasizes livability with a minimal footprint. Advanced technologies like phase-change materials and vacuum insulation significantly boost the thermal performance of the building’s wall system.

Earthing: The Benefits of Connecting with Earth’s Energy

the-health-benefits

Ever feel the urge to walk barefoot on the beach or feel the grass between your toes? As it turns out, this urge goes much deeper than simply feeling good. It has been repeatedly demonstrated that there is a significant electrical interaction between the Earth and each one of us.

Earth, as it turns out, is not neutrally charged as was originally believed – it has a negative charge. This means that is has an abundance of electrons. This charge does not interact with us too often since we live in insulated buildings and wear insulated footwear. In other words, we rarely touch the ground!

WHY DOES TOUCHING THE GROUND MATTER?

Humans evolved, like all animals, walking on the ground without insulating barriers between the Earth and our feet. It is common knowledge that the soles of our feet are extremely sensitive due to a high concentration of nerve endings. Since nerve tissue is electrically conductive, it is easy to understand that the bottoms of our feet are highly conductive surfaces.
Because of the conductivity of our soles, it was proposed that perhaps there was an electrical interaction between the Earth’s negative charge and our bodies. This hypothesis was tested many times and the results were nothing short of amazing.
Researchers found that there was a significant relation between the charge of our bodies and the ground. In fact, it has been determined that the Earth acts as a natural reservoir of electric energy. If a person with an excessive negative charge, or an excess of electrons, steps onto the ground, the excess will be absorbed into the Earth. If a person has a positive charge, or a deficiency of electrons, then the Earth will supply what is needed to achieve homeostasis (balance). This is a truly amazing discovery: stepping on the ground electrically balances you!

WHY IS THIS SIGNIFICANT?

In the past twenty years, we have witnessed an explosion of research conducted on human physiology and disease. What has been discovered has prompted almost global awareness of the importance of antioxidants and the process of oxidation. Oxidation, literally the same process of iron rusting, has been found to greatly contribute to aging and the formation of disease.

The culprits are “free radicals.” A free radical is a molecule that has become unstable because of the lack of an electron. Free radicals will ‘take’ electrons from other molecules in order to become stable, but in the process they produce more free radicals. In time, free radicals can damage any tissue and lead to aging and disease.
Free radicals form in our bodies naturally as a byproduct of stress, environmental & dietary toxins and natural metabolic processes. Nature’s solution to free radicals is anti-oxidants. Anti-oxidants are substances that help put a stop to oxidation by providing the missing electrons to free radicals without becoming free radicals themselves.
Thanks to the progress of science, we now better understand that related to oxidation is the natural process of inflammation. Inflammation, called “the silent killer,” is the leading theory on the underlying cause of many diseases (such as cancer and heart disease). The problem of inflammation lies not in a scarcity of electrons, as in oxidation, but in an excess of electrons.

STAY BALANCED, STAY GROUNDED!

When you ground yourself, you are utilizing nature’s most powerful form of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory: free electrons. The effect does not need to come from an injection or a drug; it comes directly from the Earth. All you have to do is put your bare feet on the ground!
We live in an environment where we are exposed to an ever-growing amount of electromagnetic fields (EMF), this increases the amount of free radicals being produced in our bodies. Free radicals are positively charged molecules which lead to inflammation. Direct contact with earth instantly transfers natural electrical energy to the body, as the earth is a limitless source of negative-charged free electrons. (Our heart, brain, nervous system, muscles and immune system are all essentially electrical subsystems operating within a ‘bioelectrical’ body.)
When you are in direct contact with the ground (walking, sitting, or laying down on the earth’s surface), the flow of energy from the earth (free electrons) neutralises the impact of free radicals in our body. This induces favorable physiological changes that promote optimum health.
Traditionally shoes were made of leather, which actually conducts electrons and therefore maintains a conductive contact between the Earth and your feet. However modern day rubber and plastics are electrical insulators and therefore block the beneficial flow of electrons from the Earth to your body.
Earthing can be done by walking barefoot and/or sitting outside on the lawn, dirt, or sand. Earthing should be done for at least 60 minutes every day and for optimal benefits as much as you can in a day!
blood viscosity samples after grounding earthing
These are microscope images of blood taken from three individuals just before and after forty minutes of grounding.
(The before images are on the left, the after on the right.) The pictures clearly show a dramatic thinning and decoupling of the blood cells.
The reasons why we need to walk barefoot and tap into the primal energy of the Earth.
  • Inflammation has been linked to nearly every degenerative disease you can think of — cardiovascular disease, diabetes, arthritis, glaucoma, autoimmune disorders, cancer and many more. Earthing reduces chronic inflammation and related chronic pain.
  • Earthing neutralizes the free radicals in our bodies, significantly reducing oxidative stress and readily recovers us from injuries, trauma and exhaustion.
  • Earthing recommended for anyone with an auto-immune condition
  • Grounding affects your DNA immediately
  • When you ground to the electron-enriched earth, an improved balance of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system occurs.
  • Enhances circulation, leading to more energy
  • The Earth is the natural antidote for electron deficiency to achieve a healthy balance.
  • Improved sleep
  • Reduces hormonal and menstrual symptoms
Dr. James Oschman, Ph.D. biophysicist and pioneer Earthing researcher, says, “The moment your foot touches the Earth… your physiology changes. An immediate normalization begins. and an anti-inflammatory switch is turned on. People stay inflamed because they never connect to the Earth, the source of free electrons, which can neutralize the free radicals in the body that cause disease and cellular destruction.”
Here is an informative video on the benefits of Grounding and why everyone needs to reconnect with Earth’s energy. This video below shows Clint Ober, who discovered the benefits of Earthing, explaining more about it:

Shamanism and the Transformative Power of Drum Meditation

sage

Cleansing with Sage
“Shamanism is not a religion. It’s a method. And when this method is practiced with humility, reverence and self-discipline, the shaman’s path can become a way of life.” – Hank Wesselman
The wise make one lifetime into many; the many make one lifetime into less. Shamans are intent upon making their one life into many by cultivating a relationship and a dialogue with the multiple sub-selves within their own psyche as well as with the multiple sub-selves within the psyche of others.
They intuit the animal-god dilemma inherent within the human condition, and seek to absolve theexistential crisis that inevitably occurs because of it. Shamans are not wise because they know everything without questioning, but because they question everything they think they know.
shamans drumming
Drumming may also be used as a form of therapy for releasing and moving through strong emotions such as grief and pain.
One of the many tools shamans use to question what they think they know is the sacred drum. Drumming is perhaps the oldest form of active meditation known to humanity. It can help with a myriad of issues, such as: retrieving lost aspects of soul, releasing unhealthy entities, solving conflicts within the unconscious, transforming the negative energy of past traumas into positive energy, helping people finally feel suppressed emotions, and healing unhealthy patterns and habits.
Drum meditation can also be used as a method for rewilding. In her book Sacred Land, Sacred Sex: Rapture of the Deep Dolores Chapelle reveals how the drum can have a direct, potent effect on human neurophysiology. She concludes that trance drumming “links us directly with our real human nature in all its deep aspects and therefore can link us once again to the land.”
By surrendering ourselves to the shape-shifting rhythm of the drum, we allow ourselves to move into the ethereal realm of deep imagination, where healing transformation is free to take place; where we are free to communicate with various archetypes and travel through limitless worlds.
As Bill Plotkin writes, “Trance drumming pushes us over the edge and we fall into other worlds.” The rhythm of the drum opens the door to our depths, seducing the angels and demons of our unconscious and resurrecting the forgotten gods and goddesses of our inner world. It’s a mythic journey that bridges inner and outer, the seen and unseen, the conscious and unconscious.
The sacred rhythm of the drum recalibrates our soul, knocking it back into balance with the cosmic frequency, while retuning what may have previously been falsely tuned. By riding the wave of the drum, we perceive actualities and imagine possibilities that we might otherwise have missed.
sacred-shamanic-drum
Sacred drum
Drum meditation facilitates healthy ego-deconstruction through its powerful resonance with the depths, thereby allowing the soul to speak. A healthy drum meditation is like a crowbar leveraging the dark depths of our soul. What we see during our drum meditation journey has the potential to reveal clues to the riddle of our lives as well as give us greater clarity regarding the purpose and meaning of our lives.
But it can also upset us and cause us grief and immense pain. It can break our hearts open, which opens us up that much more to the power and poignancy of the sacred. Either way we are soul-shifted by the vastness and enchantment of our journey through the inner-outer nature of the soul-world dynamic. Our souls become more robust, more adaptable to the impermanence of the world.
Through the art of rhythmic drumming, shamans take the concept of “having a vision” to the next level by revealing exactly the sort of dialectical boundary-crossing logic that is needed to overcome the one-dimensionality of modern day deconstructionism. They employ the drum as a vehicle that facilitates journeys into the mysteries of cosmos and psyche, where deep imagery and soulful connection with our deeper self can take place.
When boundary-crossing with the vibratory rhythm of the drum, the visionary experience tends to blend the senses synesthetically, and we take on the power of existential freedom. Imagine Neo caught in between The Matrix and The Desert of the Real. What’s revealed is the truth of reality: there is no separation; everything is connected; all is a synergy of both cosmos and psyche. As James Hillman maintains, “We live in a world that is neither ‘inner’ nor ‘outer.’”
With enough practice, the power of drum meditation can help us to develop what Ivan Illich called “tools of conviviality” by giving us the courage to interpret and live our own destiny as opposed to merely going through the motions of living the destiny handed down to us. We can become human catalysts and proactive agents of change. We can become New-oracles with the courage to tell the old-oracles that they have failed.
